New Open Access Book: Transdisciplinary Experiments in Higher Education
I am thrilled to announce the publication of a new open-access book that I have had the privilege of co-editing alongside my esteemed colleagues, Gray Kochhar-Lindgren and Wendy Sims-Schouten.
Published by UCL Press, Transdisciplinary Experiments: Research, teaching and institutionalisation explores how experimental approaches can fundamentally reshape research, education, and institutional structures to better respond to today’s complex and interconnected global challenges.
By bringing together diverse international voices—including scholars, artists, scientists, teachers, curators, and community leaders—we offer a blend of practical strategies and theoretical insights. We dive deep into project-based teaching, flexible programme designs, and new forms of academic organisation that align with the needs of our modern society.
Exploring AI and Transdisciplinary Playgrounds
One of my chapters titled “Artificial intelligence and transdisciplinary playgrounds” explores how AI can be integrated into innovative curriculum designs to foster transdisciplinary learning. It examines how we can create dynamic, playful, and experimental spaces in higher education where technology and human creativity intersect.
What You Will Find Inside
The book is structured to guide readers through the full spectrum of transdisciplinary integration:
- Part I: Transdisciplinary research: Voices from doctoral, postdoctoral, and professional researchers exploring space, climate change, public health, and youth empowerment.
- Part II: Transdisciplinary teaching and learning: Insights into facilitating a transdisciplinary spirit, nomadic artistry, and AI-driven educational playgrounds.
- Part III: Institutionalising transdisciplinarity: Strategies for embedding these practices into university curricula and structures for the common good.
- Provocations: A unique section offering reflections from contributors on leadership challenges, creative unease, and the possibilities for creative interventions.
